We're hosting a panel discussion on human rights in Myanmar!🇲🇲 MCC is honoured to welcome three members of Myanmar's National Unity Government (NUG) as our panelists. NUG was formed after the 2021 coup d'état. It is a parallel government formed by MPs that managed to evade arrest, and the People's Defence Force, a resistance armed group. It is Myanmar's most diverse government to date.

MCC participated in the Southeast Asian Students and Clubs Welcome event! Representatives of our club met other Southeast Asian peers, mentors, club leaders and PhD candidates at UofT. We had a great time socializing and networking with everyone while enjoying some food✨
This gallery features photos from Bryan Dickie's published photo book covering Myanmar's ongoing civil war. The book focuses on civilians who joined together to form an opposition army dubbed the 'People's Defence Force' who are actively fighting an entrenched military regime that took control of the country in the 2021 February coup.
MCC hosted a visit to the Mahādhammika Myanmar Buddhist Temple. We learned about the principles of Buddhism and mindfulness. We got a chance to practice our mindfulness through a guided meditation by the monk. Finally, we had a delicious Burmese lunch with desserts.
We held a booth at the UTSU Clubs Fair 2023! We showed people our longyi and how to wear thanakha. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn about Myanmar and signed up to be part of our club!
MCC hosted a New Students Welcome Event, in collaboration with MSAO and Burma Scholar. We met many students new to Toronto/Canada & some old ones. \n\nThe event was a success with new friendly faces and yummy food. Thanks to everyone who showed up!🙌🏼.
In collaboration with University of Toronto Chinese, we hosted on March 17, 2023, a small networking and cross-cultural dialogue session between Burmese and Chinese students at the University of Toronto. We brought cultural teas, hosted trivia, games, brought thanaka (Burmese makeup), and shared knowledge.
On March 11, 2023, the MCC collaborated with the @asianinstitute_uoft to host a panel discussion about activism in Myanmar across generations. Thank you to our excellent panelists @hann_may and U Donald Ming for sharing their experiences.
On February 11, 2023, at the Innis College Townhall Theatre, we hosted a film by Documentary Producer Ko Pauk called Rays of Hope. Most of the general attendance was by members of the Burmese community and the event was hosted largely in partnership with the Myanmar Emergency Fund. Food, some fundraising activities, and some performances were also held there as well.
We joined the UTSU's Multi-Cultural Food Bazaar at the Student Commons. Using funding from our community partners, we served free Burmese Ee Kyaw Kway (Fried Bread) and Lay Pay Ye (Milk Tea) while having individuals learn a little bit about the country and culture. There was a great turnout of people interested in Myanmar and of course in our free food.
We hosted our first annual general meeting on October 21, 2022 at an OISE classroom. There we outlined collaboratively our interests and ideas, networked, and enjoyed some pizza and soft drinks. We also voted on our constitution and held our first ever executive elections.
